Mentor opportunities

The backbone of the Pilot Training Department, which is responsible for delivering VATSIM’s pilot ratings, are the mentors who guide students through the training process. We are always looking for motivated mentors to join our ranks and help train our pilots both new and old.

This is the perfect opportunity for long standing pilots to donate time to the network in a slightly different capacity.

Your role will involve providing one on one tuition to students and answering their questions. Moreover you will be responsible for providing an excellent standard of service and assist in building VATUK’s pilot community.

Except in very special circumstances, all new mentors will commission to deliver the VATSIM Online Pilot syllabus and build up experience, opportunities will arise to teach students to attain higher ratings as you gain hours as a mentor. Long term you may find yourself as an examiner or even as a Pilot Training Department Instructor who manage the mentoring teams.

You do not have to have any rating in order to make your application for one of these posts however you should be able to take at least the P1 tests immediately without any training.

Please make your application in writing to pilot.training@vatsim-uk.co.uk and include the following sections:

  • Full name
  • Certificate ID (the number you use to log in to the network)
  • Previous disciplinary history including suspensions, if any
  • Current pilot rating or which rating you are able to be examined upon should you be successful
  • Experience as a pilot on the network
  • Previous experience teaching people new things
  • Why you would like to be a mentor

A representative will be in contact with you within two weeks of your application with further information. We cannot accept every application due to limited mentor-training resources hence please put effort into making yours stand out.
